FASTeTEN features at key eGovernment events

The FASTeTEN project was presented and discussed at two high profile eGovernment conferences and seminars during May. At both, the project was represented by Baudouin de Sonis, director of e-Forum, which is a FASTeTEN project partner. FASTeTEN featured at the events alongside other high profile eGovernment projects such as STORK and PEPPOL, and alongside discussions on the development of European Union eGovernment policy.

At the GOV IT 2010 Summit in Antwerp, Belgium on May 17-18, Baudouin de Sonis chaired the eGovernment section of the event, and presented FASTeTEN in an opening session setting out the EU eGov roadmap. FASTeTEN was described as a project supported by the European Commission’s eTEN programme, with the main objective being to validate the adaptability of the FAST (Fournisseur d’Accès Sécurisés Transactionnels) infrastructure and technologies for every administrative procedure and constraint, in any country. FAST has been developed to become a standardisation tool for IT communication at a large scale. FAST was initially developed in a French public sector context.

At the Global Cities Dialogue Spring Summit in Brussels, Belgium, May 27-28, Baudouin de Sonis chaired a session on ’Trusting digital identity services’, at which FASTeTEN was discussed as a trust infrastructure alongside other initiatives. The session also featured case studies from the commune of Saint Gilles, Brussels, Belgium, on the Belgian electronic ID card; from the city of Helsinki, on initiatives to encourage take up of the Finnish electronic ID card; from the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, on authentication of digital signatures; and from Tokyo on the Japanese experience of eSociety.

The European Commission was represented at the Global Cities Dialogue summit by Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes, who delivered the keynote speech.
