FASTeTEN mid-term event: first announcementFASTeTEN will hold a secure infrastructure workshop in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Paris, on 15 October 2008. The workshop will give a technical overview of FAST, will examine the pilot deployments in detail, and will be an opportunity for other public bodies to learn about this recognised good practice case. The workshop will be held in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Paris, where on the two following days (October 16-17) the Worldwide Forum on eDemocracy and eGovernment will take place. The workshop is free of charge. Registration is via the ePractice website. A preliminary agenda is also available there. Background information FASTeTEN is an eTEN-supported project to pilot the FAST bundle of services for secure document exchange in different European contexts. FAST (standing for Fournisseur d’Accès Sécurisés Transactionnels, or Fully Automated Secured Transactions) is a French developed system that was featured in the 2005 European eGovernment Awards catalogue of good practices. FAST has been successfully tested in France, but has the potential to offer considerable benefits to other European public administrations. Specifically, FAST is a bundle of services facilitating secure document exchange, covering identity management, administration of digital certificates, rights management and authentication, time stamping, document validation, encryption and archiving. As part of FASTeTEN, pilot deployments of FAST are taking place in Sheffield, UK (educational services) and Valencia, Spain (eProcurement). One important aspect of the FASTeTEN project is that it is being tracked by a group of potential deployers. These are monitoring the pilot deployments with a view to assessing how FAST can be used in their own administrations. As the project progresses, the potential deployers will examine legal and organisational barriers to the implementation of FAST, thus preparing the ground for a quick take-up of the system in other contexts once the pilot deployments have been successfully completed. |
