About Generalitat
The Generalitat is the regional government of Valencia, a Mediterranean region in Spain covering an area of 23,305 square kilometers, with a population of more than 4,000,000. The Generalitat has around 110,000 public employees, and more than 8,000 million Euro in its annual budget. It has jurisdiction over such public services as health, education, administration of justice, social services, culture, employment, and certain taxes.
In the fields of telecommunications and information society, the Generalitat has long experience in the introduction of information and communication technologies both in public administration and in the general society. The regional government has released action plans for this purpose, from 1996 to the lastest plan, AVANTIC, in development from 2004 to 2010. In the 1990s, key building blocks for e-administration were constructed, both from a technological and an organisational standpoint. At present, with the new strategic plan, AVANTIC, the regional government of Valencia hopes to evolve from electronic administration to intelligent administration, ensuring greater competitiveness and sustainable development, as well as social and economic welfare for the entire population. This intelligent administration will take into account the demands of citizens, and will provide citizens with services through their preferred channel, such as Internet, phone, TDT and of course, in person.
