FASTeTEN to participate in eID strategy workshop

The FASTeTEN project is backing an event taking place in Yorkshire, England, on the ’Yorkshire Digital Eco-system,’ an example of how broadband can be rolled out on a regional basis, including to regions with large rural areas. The event will take place on September 17.

The event will concentrate in particular on use of information technologies to move out of the economic downturn. The European Union’s strategy in this respect has emphasised the need for identity management as a prerequisite to the evolution of new services, and a consultation process has been initiated, entitled ’Towards an Electronic Identity Management (eID) Infrastructure for Trustworthy Services in e-Government and e-Commerce in the European Union’ (for background information, click here).

A number of European projects are working in this area, dealing with areas such as eProcurement (PEPPOL, www.peppol.eu), eIdentity (STORK), eHealth, and services. The FASTeTEN project, meanwhile, is working on concrete deployment of a bundle of services for public administrations, based on trust infrastructures and eAuthentication.

More information about the workshop will be published in due course. The venue for the event will be a former steelworks, Magna is located on: Sheffield Road, Rotherham, S60 1DX, UK. For more information about Magna, click here.
